October 25, 1951 – October 24, 2017

Wesley Floyd Harrell, 65, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, after an illness. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2017, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Florence. Burial with full military honors will follow in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

He was born in Florence, a son of the late David Leon and Doris Watford Harrell. He graduated from Southside High School and Coker University with a degree in business administration. Mr. Harrell served honorably in the United States Air Force and the South Carolina Army National Guard, 132nd Military Police Company, from which he retired. It was during his service in the National Guard that he was called to active duty during Desert Storm.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Harrell faithfully served the City of Florence as a lieutenant in the Florence Police Department until his retirement. He was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Leon Harrell; and his parents-in-law, Keels and Freddie Brockington.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Brockington Harrell, and their children, Emily H. (Blake) Lyles of Sumter, SC, and Wesley Brockington Harrell of Columbia, and grandson, William Blake Lyles, Jr., of Sumter; a son, David Jay Harrell of Florence; a sister, Marilyn (Ted) Stewart of Florence; a sister-in-law, Carol Ann Harrell of Florence; two special nephews, T. J. Rodgers and Clay Rodgers, both of Lake City; and a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
