For better or worse, our society is strongly influenced by managers and their organizations. Because organizations play such major roles in our lives, understanding how they operate and how they are managed is important. In my management courses, I explain the general nature of management, its dimensions, and its challenges. I explain the concepts and theories of management and how managers use them to make better decisions. I discuss the management process, the different roles and skills of managers, the nature of managerial work, and the scope of management in contemporary organizations. My main objective is to help my students understand what good management theory is and how to build and use it.
