A celebration for the life of Mr. Bascom Wayne Pigg, 79, who entered into eternal rest on December 14, 2019, will be held at 4 o’clock on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with The Rev. Carl Hunsucker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. An Inurnment in the Memory Garden of St. Luke will be private. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Wayne, the son of the late Bascom Lee and Olive Hendrix Pigg. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judy Brown Pigg; daughters, Julie Schmidler of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Miriam (Russ) Norwood of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Daniel Norwood and Kate Schmidler; two close cousins, Ronnie (Patty) Holley, Dennis (Kay) Holley of Hartsville, SC; and his beloved Boston Terrier, Elsie.
A graduate of Hartsville High School, Wayne was active on the high school baseball and basketball teams. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and graduated from St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC with a degree in Business Administration. Wayne worked for International Minerals and Chemical Corporation in Hartsville for 37 years, retiring as an area accountant. He also served the Hartsville Chamber of Commerce as a past treasurer. A member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Wayne served on the Pastor/Staff relations committee and the church council. He was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather “Piggy Pops” as well as a good friend to many who will miss him dearly. He fought a good fight many times throughout his life as he battled serious health issues on a number of occasions. He knew that the power of prayer by many helped sustain him during these difficult times.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to St. Luke UMC, 302 Dunlap Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550, the American Heart Association, 181 E. Evans Street, BTC-009 Suite 200, Florence, SC 29506, or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mike Harless, Dr. Farhan Maqsood, Dr. Glen Dougherty, Fresenius Dialysis Clinics, and Leslie and Alfred Williamson for their care during Wayne’s various illnesses.
