Catherine Martha Spicer Bishop November 9, 1939 to August 30, 2020 A native North Carolinian, Catherine was born to Catherine (“Kitty”) Caldwell Lore Spicer and Cyril Kenneth Spicer, an early WBT employee. Her schooling was in Davidson and Charlotte. Later she graduated from Coker College and Kings Business College. Her husband, Howard “Buck” Emmett Bishop, Jr., predeceased her in 1988. Over the years she enjoyed the company of friends, church members and several dogs and cats. Catherine’s professional life included work at Royal Insurance, Celanese, and Duke Power, as well as legal, retail and insurance offices. She was a masterful writer, had a quick wit, easy laugh, and was gifted with perfect pitch in music. At St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, where she was a life-long member, she both sang in the choir and played handbells. To honor her love of music memorials may be made to the Music Ministries, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 1510 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204. Her family and friends will miss her bright spirit, enjoyable company and genuine interest in others. Even in her last days she relished a good laugh, becoming a favorite of her nurses. Catherine was indeed a fun and fine lady. In accordance with her wishes she is to be cremated and will rest in peace near her “Buck” in the church’s Memorial Garden. Survivors include cousins: James David Lore and wife, Penny, of Raleigh, NC; Dr. John Frederick Hartness and wife, Marilyn, of Monroe, NC; Sara H. Deiters and Patricia H. Carl, both of Huntsville, AL; Douglas Lore of New Orleans, LA; Mary Lida Alexander of Raleigh, NC; and Robert Lore of Greenville, SC.
