Truey Tarbox Thieker was born August 17, 1931, in Charleston, SC, daughter of Gertrude Hesse Claussen Tarbox and Herbert Glennie Tarbox, Sr. She passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, in Columbia, SC, at age 89.
Truey’s family moved to Georgetown, SC, in 1937. She attended Coker College. In 1951, she married Forrest Henry Thieker, Jr. (1925-2013), and they settled in Columbia, SC. They attended St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, where Truey served on the Altar Guild 25 years, sang in the choir for 20 years, and was active in Episcopal Church Women.
Mrs. Thieker was president of the Professional Engineers Auxiliary, and member of the Rose Society, Women’s Club, English Speaking Union, Settlers’ Club, and Sasanqua and other garden clubs. She became a Clemson Master Gardener. Truey was also a world traveler and enjoyed cruises, bus trips, and airplane excursions.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Truey is survived by three children: Forrest, Gary (Cassie), and Alicia (Charlie); six grandchilden: David (Sumitra), Alison, Stephanie, Henry, Zachary (Rhiana), and Daniel; a brother Glennie (Margaret Ann), a niece, Meg (Cotton), and seven great-grandchildren.
