“Cookie” Culbertson, age 76, died peacefully on December 12, 2017. Cookie was born on March 10, 1941 in Columbia, S.C. to the late Walter Marion Patrick Sr. and Alma Thomas Patrick, growing up in Smoaks, S.C. and Hampton, S.C. She graduated from The Wade Hampton Class of ’59 and attended Coker University and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. After graduating, she worked at Grayson-Elliott, Inc. alongside her first husband (James Fulton Grayson, III) and his family. She was married to James Fulton Grayson from March 9, 1963 until his passing on January 10, 1976. They had two children together, James Fulton “Jim” Grayson, IV and Elisabeth “Lisa” Anne Grayson Mills. In December 1976, Cookie married Wylie Joseph Culbertson in Columbia, S.C. (deceased July 10, 2003) They had a daughter together, Ashley Patrick Culbertson Westerfield. Cookie and Wylie moved to Lilburn, GA in 1981 where they raised their children for the next 30 years. Cookie enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved dancing to 50s music, cooking, entertaining, holidays and celebrating with friends and family, especially St. Patrick’s Day. Cookie had a great sense of humor and always had a sunny outlook on life. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time when them, especially going to amusement parks and taking beach trips. She was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Lilburn, GA for many years and was a faithful Christian. She was a blessing to others around her with her warm personality and loving nature.
She is survived by her son, James “Jim” Fulton Grayson IV (Susan); daughters, Elisabeth “Lisa” Anne Grayson Mills (Alan), Ashley Patrick Culbertson Westerfield (Eddie); sister, Elizabeth Gnann; daughter-in-law, Deanna Christian Grayson; grandchildren, Lorrie Ann Patrick Grayson, Catherine “Catie” Mary Blair Grayson, Grayson Joseph Mills, Calista “Callie” Ruby Westerfield, Cayden Cooper Westerfield and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cookie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Visitation is Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at SouthCare Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia. Graveside service is Saturday, January 20, , 2018 at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia, South Carolina.
