Wilma H. Tirrell, age 83, wife of Elvin D. Tirrell, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Tirrell was born July 31, 1932, in Horry County, a daughter of the late Dock W. and Leola Shelley Hucks.
She grew up on a farm near Aynor, graduated from Aynor High School and received an Associate Degree in Business from Coker University. She retired from Civil Service after thirty years at the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base where she was Personal Secretary and Administrative Assistant for the Wing Commander. When the base was redeveloped, a street was named in her honor. She previously worked as an administrative assistant and secretary for the Horry County State Senate and Legislation as well as the Horry County Board of Commissioners. Mrs. Tirrell enjoyed her career, friends, the beach and traveling. She traveled to five continents. But the greatest love and fulfillment of her life was her family and the many hours of she shared with them.
She was predeceased by her first husband of ten years, James E. “Jim” Reynolds and a brother-in-law, N.H. “Corky” Collins.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Elvin D. Tirrell, a son, James Anthony Reynolds and his wife, Jeanie, and a daughter, Karen R. Martin and her husband, Barry, all of Galivants Ferry. She has seven grandchildren: Tiffany R. Nichols (Warren), Jamie Reynolds (Amber), Heather R, Cook (Marcus), Shannon R. Coates (Jason), Drew E. Martin (Tiffany), Trent B. Martin (Ally), and Brett R. Martin (Cassie). GreatGrandchildren are Blane and Benji Butler, Hunter, Hank and Jarrett Reynolds, Heather, Anna, Hart and Katelyn Cook, Cole Coates, Madelyn and Evan Martin, and Doc Martin. Step-Great Grandchildren are Monty Rutheford, Tyler Follrod, and Trace Craver. Two sisters, Lorese H. Mcquinn (Bill) of Connecticut, and Rebecca A. Hucks of NC; and a brother William Duke Hucks (his wife, Angie, who is loved as a sister) of SC; and five nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Gordon Graham officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
