Barbara Faye Covington Winesett, 95, went home to be with her Savior on August 16, 2024. She was born on July 9, 1929, to the late Joseph and Clara Covington Benfield in Dillon, South Carolina. Faye graduated Valedictorian of her high school class, and attended Coker College and the University of South Carolina, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She became a lifetime member of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest academic honor society in the United States.
After college, in 1950, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Dan Winesett, Jr.
She is survived by her two daughters that she dearly loved, Debra Faye Zoglmann, and Cynthia Anne House (Shawn Rachal); grandchildren, Julie Sloan (Joe), Kristina Ditto (Brent), Jeff Zoglmann, Amy Tucker (Clark), and Melissa Humphies (Scott); 9 great-grandchildren, Connor Sloan, Kate Ditto, Rachel Tucker, Caiden Sloan, Avery Ditto, Caleb Sloan, Olivia Zoglmann, Micah Tucker, and Henry Zoglmann.
Faye was an avid reader who loved to spend time in the library, especially when 4 generations of her family would be there at the same time. She passed her love of reading down to many of her family members.
She was also an avid UK and USC football and basketball fan.
She was very proud, upon her passing, to be a 32 year breast cancer survivor, and marched in the Susan B. Komen parade. She loved her church, Severns Valley Baptist, and participated with the senior adult events and trips with Roger McCurry.
Her greatest love was her family, and she loved participating in their lives and watching all of them grow into bright, responsible, and kind people.
A family service will be led by Roger McCurry with burial at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
A special thank you to her caregivers at Atria and Helmwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Faye’s honor to the Susan B. Komen foundation.
