In Memoriam

Norma Jean Johnson King

A graveside service for Norma Jean Johnson King, 90, will be held Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. in Magnolia Cemetery in Hartsville.

Mrs. King, of Conway and formerly of Hartsville, passed away Aug. 11 at her and her daughter’s home following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late Clayton Leroy Johnson Sr. and the late Nettie Allen Johnson. She was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church and, prior to retirement, was a school teacher in Kentucky and South Carolina. Mrs. King especially loved working with the Perry family at Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach during her summer breaks from teaching and then full time after she retired from teaching. She believed there was no finer place to be other than at Lakewood.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was predeceased by her husband, William Sumner King; two brothers, Craig Johnson Sr. and Clayton Leroy Johnson Jr.; and one sister, Janet Johnson Chapman.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela K. “Pam” Hucks (Wayne) of Conway and Vicki King-Skinner Marcis (John) of Pawleys Island; one son, William Duane King of Hartsville; eight grandchildren, Josh Hucks (Katelyn) and Kayla Hucks Simonson (Bart) of Conway, Chris Skinner of Conway, Brianne Skinner Vaskovardzic (Andrej) of Atlanta, Ga., Matt King of Charleston, and Will King, AnaClaire King and Clay King of Hartsville; seven great-grandchildren, Keegan Hucks, Piper Ann Hucks, Andrea Grace “Andi” Simonson, Knoxleigh King, Ethan Vaskovardzic, Zane Vaskovardzic, and Graylee Vaskovardzic; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Johnson and Sandra Johnson of Hartsville; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Crescent Hospice for their loving and devoted care of Mrs. King.
