Elizabeth Anne McGuirt Kennington, 84, died peacefully Monday, May 4, 2020, at Carrington Place, Matthews. She was a native of Monroe, the daughter of R. Hall and Lucile Price McGuirt. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William “Bill” Kennington and a brother, Robert “Bob” H. McGuirt, Jr. Anne was a graduate of Monroe High School and Coker College, and spent many years as a Legal Secretary in Charlotte, NC. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and an avid ACC Basketball and Football fan.
She is survived by her brother, Frank (Jenny) McGuirt of Wingate, NC; daughters Laura House of Charlotte and Lisa Cooper (Richard) of Trinity, NC; stepsons Bryant (Ann) Edwards of Midland, Berry (Wendy) Edwards of Denver, NC, Ritchie (Jenny) Kennington of Awendaw, SC and Billy Kennington of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC on Saturday, May 9th at 11am. The family will greet friends after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC 28205, or a memorial of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Carrington Place for their exceptional care of Anne over the past four and a half years.
