February 22, 1922 – February 4, 2018
Emily Claire Funderburk Love, 95, of Georgetown, SC, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt peacefully entered the kingdom of heaven on Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born February 28, 1922, in Hartsville, SC, she was raised in Christian faith by her loving parents, Ola (Culp) and Charles W. Funderburk on her beloved College Avenue. She was a member of the Coker University class of 1943.
She, her siblings, and her parents were devoted members of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hartsville.
Rooted in Christian love and witness, Emily selflessly dedicated her life to God, to her husband “Bill” of 51 years, to his ministry in the South Carolina United Methodist Church Conference, and to her family and friends.
Emily’s lifelong and faithful devotion to letter writing was experienced by all around her and her lovely crocheted handwork was shared with everyone she knew, including the most unsuspecting strangers. Emily’s love of every flower and the ability to “root” even the smallest cutting afforded her the opportunity to pass down generations of blooming family treasures. Her love and gentle spirit not only nourished her flowers but those around her. These few God Given talents are a mere introduction to the gifts Emily possessed. Her love and grace were felt far and wide.
Surviving Emily is her daughter, Elaine Louise Love of Georgetown, SC; son, William B. Love IV of Georgetown, SC; son-in-law, Joseph Stout Hardwick of Marion, SC; grandchildren, Megan Love Blomqvist (Jonas) of Jupiter, FL, Joseph Kristian Hardwick of Marion, SC, and Emily Kendall Flock (Chris) of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren, Liam Christopher Flock, twins Emily Love and Erik Jonas Blomqvist, and Joseph Bodie Hardwick; and loving nieces and nephews. Emily is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend William B. Love III; her daughter, Emily Claire Hardwick (identical twin to Louise); her brothers, Charles, Bill and Frank Funderburk; and sister, Dorothy (Funderburk) Primavera.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 o’clock on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Magnolia Cemetery in Hartsville, SC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Emily was a faithful member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and memorials may be made in her honor in care of Kay Franks, P.O Box 1243, Georgetown, SC 29442.
