Jean Rozier Smith, 86, of Lumberton, North Carolina, passed away surrounded by her family Nov. 25, 2016, at Southeastern Hospice House.The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church in Lumberton, the Rev. Herbert Lowery and Dr. Stan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery. Smith was born and raised in Lake View, South Carolina, and graduated from Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina. Following college, she served as a teacher in Bladenboro, North Carolina. After marrying her husband Billy in 1951 the couple founded Smith’s Refrigeration, a family business which is now operated by their sons. Through the years, Smith regularly served as a volunteer at Southeastern Regional Medical Center and remained active in her community and church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy B. Smith. Surviving family include, Eddie Smith and his wife Nancy, William B. Smith, Jr. (Smitty) and his wife Michele, and Von Johnson and her husband Jerry; her grandchildren include, Kelsie Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Dr. Steven Smith and wife Katie, Philip Smith, Casey Rowland and wife Anna, and their daughter Briley.Special thanks to Annette Jones and Kayla Lowery who served as loving caregivers for many years.The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the home of Von and Jerry Johnson, 300 Grande Oaks Boulevard West, Lumberton.
