FLORENCE – Jean Williams Waters, 95, died on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
She was born in Ruffin, SC, on November 21, 1928, a daughter of the late Flora Kelly Williams and Jake Witsell Williams. She was the widow of Joseph Payne Waters, Jr.
Mrs. Waters graduated from Ruffin High School and Coker College. She moved to Florence in 1949, where she taught school for 18 years in Florence District 1 as well as All Saints’ Day School.
She was an active member of her beloved church, St. John’s Anglican Church of Florence. Jean was proud to be the oldest living member of her church.
Survivors include her four children, Vicki Hebert (Don), Joe Waters, III (Connie), Kelly Lyles (Jim), and Nancy Poston (Jimmy); her special grandchildren, Chrissy Welch (Aaron), Rachel Carroll (Jonathan), Carly Moss, Benjamin Lyles, Anna Lyles, Jake Lyles, Kelsey Waters, Adrienne Waters, Trevor Waters, Witsell Poston, and Lucas Poston; and her four precious great-grandchildren, Miriam Welch, Patrick Carroll, Warren Carroll, and Marcus Lyles. Jean is also survived by a brother, Jake Williams (Dorothy), and a special nephew, Ted Speth (Sally).
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, March 15, 2024, at St. John’s Church with burial following at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church Parish Hall one hour prior to the funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Waters-Powell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
