Julie Ann New, 56, resident of 979 Old Abbeville Hwy. went to be with her Lord Thursday May 4, 2017. Born in Abbeville, SC, she was a daughter of Julia Smith Petty and the late Thomas Allen New, Sr. Julie was a graduate of Hartsville High School, followed by a BS Degree from Coker University in Special Education. She was a recognized athlete as a star center during high school and Coker’s Lady Cobras. After college she continued to play sports on various softball teams. Her passion for helping others led her career to Whitten Center where she was a QMRP. Julie’s career was cut short as a result of strokes. Once considered disabled, though she never considered that of herself she turned her passion to church and her animals. She volunteered with Bible School and shared her teachings to a member unable to attend classes, her faith was unyielding. She participated in various bible studies and she had an amazing personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. Her strength, determination and humor inspired anyone that came in contact with her, she made her mark on their heart. Survivors include her mother Julia Smith Petty of the home; two brothers Thomas Allen New, Jr. (Kassandra) of Arizona and Kenny New (Danette) of Hartsville, SC; two sisters Edie New (Renee Smith) Abbeville, SC and Alicia Arnold (Fred) of Florence, SC; sister–in-law Sharon Hughes of Abbeville, SC; sixteen nieces and nephews; and eleven great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Rusty New.
