Mitchel R. Gulledge (MSG Ret.) age 66, entered into rest on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Hopewell Baptist Church by Rev. Dan Austin and Rev. Vernon Craig with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will greet friends from 1:45 – 2:45 PM Wednesday in the sanctuary of the church.
Mr. Gulledge was born February 2, 1952 in Mt. Croghan, SC a son of the late Cecil and Emma Hancock Gulledge. A graduate of Chesterfield High School, Mitchel went on to attain his B.A. from Coker University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Wartime. Following his service in the Army, Mitchel served for 27 years in the SC Army National Guard earning the rank of Master Sergeant and served one tour of duty in Iraq. Mr. Gulledge was a member of the American Legion Post 74.
Mr. Gulledge retired from the SC Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer after 25 years of service. A member of Hopewell Baptist Church, Mitchel enjoyed being a part of the “Ramp Ministry” throughout the years and also enjoyed farming.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gulledge was also preceded in death by his sisters, Billie Ruth McConnell, Margaret Clay, and Doris Kemmerling; and brother, Jim Gulledge.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ann Gulledge of the home; children, Michelle (Jason) Freer of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Nathan “Nate” (Katie) Gulledge of Elgin, SC; 4 grandchildren, Aaron Freer, Addison Freer, Sadie Gulledge, and Charlotte Gulledge; siblings, Harol (Violet) Gulledge of Victorville, CA, Carol (Becky) Gulledge of Cheraw, SC, Joe Gulledge of Ruby, SC, Ricky (Mary) Gulledge of Ruby, SC, and Debra (James) Sellers of Mt. Croghan, SC; also numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 or to the McLeod Hospice House, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502.
