Norma Mathis Pate, 97, of West Point, VA, formerly of North Augusta, SC, passed away January 19, 2018.
Mrs. Pate, a native of North Augusta, SC, was the daughter of D.T. and Minnie Lanham Mathis. She graduated from Coker University with degrees in Math and English. Mrs. Pate married Bennie Pate in 1957. After teaching 33 years in GA, FL and SC, she retired from Belvedere Elementary in SC. She was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and was an active member in Delta Kappa Gamma for over 60 years.

Mrs. Pate is survived by her sons, Joe Pate (Anne) of Cherry Valley, IL and Norman Pate (Lisa) of West Point, VA; her daughter-in-law, Judy Pate Thomas of Clover, SC; and her sister, Jo Pinner of Ashville, NC. She was a loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Linda Carlton was her exceptional caregiver. She was predeceased by her brothers, Dan and Fred Mathis, and her son, Benny Dee Pate (Judy).
A memorial service will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, January 24th at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, VA and the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
A second memorial service will be held 1 PM, Saturday, January 27th at Sweetwater Baptist Church, 198 Sweetwater Rd., North Augusta, SC 29860, and the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
