Urania Tumboli Ferrara, 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of the late John England Ferrara died Wednesday, July 11, 2018. A private memorial service was held Sunday, July 15, 2018 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.
Urania was born May 23, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Andrew Tumboli and the late Litsa Gregorakis Tumboli, who were Greek immigrants to this country. She graduated from Ashley Hall School in 1951 and Coker University in 1955. She taught at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and also worked at St. Francis Hospital and later at the Tennis Club in Creekside, Mount Pleasant. In the 1970s, Urania also helped lead the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society and was part of the leadership team, organizing the annual Greek Festival.
She was a devoted and loving mother, wife, and friend. She is survived by a daughter, Maria Ferrara of Mount Pleasant, SC; two sons, Joe Ferrara (Martha) of Alexandria, VA and Greg Ferrara (Laura) of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren, Sam and Ben Ferrara of Seattle, WA, and Jake Ferrara of Alexandria, VA; and dear family friend Carla Greene of Charleston, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband John of 54 years and her brother, Stathy Tumboli. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, P. O. Box 96011, Washington, DC, 20090.
