Coker College seeks a creative problem-solver with a passion for programming and system analysis to work with our Department of Information Technology.

This team member’s primary responsibility will be to manage, maintain, and advance the college’s learning management system (LMS).  Specifically, this position will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to tailor this system to meet their unique needs.   In addition, this individual will be expected to stay abreast of new technology trends in order to incorporate any relevant applications to our existing systems.

Other responsibilities include working closely with IT team members and the campus community to advance the college’s and IT’s strategic plan, providing training and additional learning resources to campus regarding our existing and future systems, assisting with broader,  more complex systems, and serving on committees as needed.

This position reports directly to the Vice President for Institutional Identity and Information Technology and will work on-campus in Hartsville, SC.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and maintain applications and databases by evaluating faculty, staff, and student needs; analyzing requirements; developing software systems.

  • Install, test, modify, and correct various information systems programs to assure their proper and effective implementation; provide training during implementation of new projects, modifications or conversions.

  • Review, define, and resolve information systems problems with particular emphasis on the project assigned; identify programming problems; develop effective resolutions.

  • Ensure data integrity and security within information systems.

  • Prepare reports and compile statistical data.

  • Serve as a back­up for the systems administrator.

  • Maintain records and prepare detailed reports of work performed.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops/conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • Ability to effectively analyze information and develop fundamental solutions to incidents/problems

  • A firm understanding of software development, testing, and debugging

  • Willingness to continually learn and improve professionally

  • Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively to meet tight deadlines

  • Experience with project management

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education is a plus, but not required.

  • Experience with object-oriented programming

  • Experience with programming languages (JavaScript and UniBasic)

  • Experience with databases (UniData and SQL)

  • Previous experience with learning management systems (Blackboard Learn preferred)

  • Experience working with enterprise resource planning systems (Ellucian Colleague preferred) and integrated web applications (Entrinsik Informer preferred)

  • Strong communication skills
