HARTSVILLE, S.C. – April 21, 2011 – Coker College art student Norah Wofford’s senior show, “A Simulation of Life,” opens with a reception and a collaborative performance with senior dance major Hannah Beard in the Cecelia Coker Bell Gallery on Monday April 25, from 7 to 8 p.m.

The performance begins shortly after the doors open and will be repeated at 7:45 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.  The show continues through April 29.

Because of the diverse elements she incorporates, Wofford refers to her show as “what the art world calls new media.”

Specifically, her exhibition combines altered home videos, sculptural constructions, photo transfers and a collaborative performance, with the intent of creating new realities for her viewers. While the resulting imagery simulates an understanding of personal memory and experience, Wofford expects that her audience will actively interpret what they see and to create their own stories.

Wofford’s exhibition is the final show in the College’s annual Spring semester senior art exhibitions.  Senior exhibitions are required of graduating art majors and are intended to represent the culmination of four years of study and offer a glimpse of the directions the artists may explore with their work following graduation.

The Cecelia Coker Bell Gallery is located in the Gladys C. Fort Art Building on the Coker College campus. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, while classes are in session.
