Professor Henderson Elected to CERRA Board of Directors

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sept. 7, 2011 – Susan Daniels Henderson, associate professor of education at Coker College, has been elected to serve a three-year term on the South Carolina Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement (CERRA) Board of Directors.

CERRA is the oldest teacher recruitment program in the country.  It administers a variety of programs designed to increase the number of students pursuing careers in education and to recruit and retain qualified, caring and competent teachers for South Carolina schools.

On CERRA’s Board of Directors, Henderson will serve as the chairperson of the Pre-collegiate Recruitment Committee, which has oversight over several initiatives including:  Pro-Team, Teacher Cadet, and Future Educators of America.  As chairperson of the committee, Henderson will also serve as a member of the Executive Committee of CERRA’s Board of Directors.

At Coker, Henderson serves as director of teacher education and Chair of the College’s department of education.   She earned her undergraduate degree from Davidson College and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Georgia State University.  In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Henderson serves as a member of the South Carolina Education Deans Alliance, does research in the field of literacy, conducts local workshops for teachers, and has made presentations at state, national and international conferences.
