HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Jan. 4, 2012 – Coker College President Robert L. Wyatt will address the Presidents Institute, hosted by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Wyatt’s presentation, which is titled “New Digital Tools for Presidential Leadership,” stresses a recognition that while technology is dramatically changing how presidents communicate with various audiences, the core attributes of effective communication – the content and character of one’s messages – must continue to take priority.

“I look forward to the opportunity to share with my peers a few of the lessons I’ve learned – some the hard way – about using social media to better connect with students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members,” said Wyatt.

“Given how quickly the applications are changing and the public nature of some of the platforms, it can be quite daunting for organizational leaders to embrace new digital tools.  I am happy that the Council of Independent Colleges has included the topic in this year’s Institute.”

The Presidents Institute is the largest annual meeting of college and university presidents in the country, bringing together the chief executives of independent institutions to explore practical approaches to the major issues faced by campus leaders. This year's theme, "Champions of the Liberal Arts: Presidential Leadership in Higher Education," addresses the challenging role of presidents to speak authoritatively about the distinctive features of their own institutions and the general advantages of smaller, private, liberal arts-oriented colleges.
