HARTSVILLE, S.C. – May 21, 2012 – Registration is open for students, ages 8-16, who are interested in participating in Coker College’s annual summer theater program, July 9-20.

The program started a year ago and culminated, after just eight days of camp, in a whimsical public production of “Seussical Jr.” This year, the program has been extended to two weeks and will conclude with performances of “Annie Jr.” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 19 and 20 in the Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Performing Arts Center.

“The program will provide a broad spectrum of theater instruction through participation in games, improvisation, music, dance and rehearsals,” said camp director Associate Professor of Theater Phyllis Fields. “Last year, the campers presented a phenomenal production. We are excited to see what they will do with ‘Annie Jr.’”

“Annie Jr.” is based on the musical “Little Orphan Annie” with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin. Well-known characters include Annie, her fellow orphans, Daddy Warbucks and Miss Hannigan. Annie is a young orphan trying to find her parents who had left her on the doorstep of an orphanage in New York City. Temporarily adopted by Daddy Warbucks, she is assisted by him and the Federal Government with her search.

Tuition for the Summer Theater Camp is $60 and can be paid in full or in weekly installments until the first day of camp. Space is limited and will be assigned on a  first-come, first-served basis.  Parents can register students online at through June 29.

Campers should bring their own lunch and snacks. Campers who wish to perform must attend both weeks of camp.
