HARTSVILLE, S.C. – March 6, 2013 – Whitney Watts has been promoted to the position of Director of Residence Life at Coker College.

Watts joined the college as assistant director of residence life and first year experience in 2010.

“Since joining Coker’s campus life team, Whitney has developed and implemented the annual SKILLS conference, improved the quality of Coker’s Commissioner program, managed and expanded programming in the Cobra Den, expanded and improved our First Year Experience program, and managed and standardized the college judicial system filing system,” said Dean of Students Jason Umfress.

“In her new role as the director of residence life, Whitney will continue the good work this department does to provide safe, comfortable, education-enriching housing options to our students.”

To serve the college’s rising enrollment, over the past two years Coker’s residential offerings have expanded to include two new facilities near the campus in downtown Hartsville – the Downtown Lofts and the Downtown Flats.  Earlier this year, the college began construction on a $3 million, 48-bed residential facility, the first of up to six to be built at the corner of East Carolina Avenue and Second Street South.  The first of these facilities will open by August 2013.

A 2008 graduate of Coker College, Watts completed a master’s degree in higher education student affairs at the University of South Carolina.
