HARTSVILLE, S.C. – May 9, 2013 – Three Coker College students were recently inducted into Nu Delta Alpha, the honorary organization of the National Dance Society (NDA).

Inducted this year were sophomore Ashley LeSage of Storrs Mansfield, Conn., junior Kirsten Sanders of Enoree, S.C., and first-year student Alexis Wiseman of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Also recognized for continued participation in Nu Delta Alpha were senior Jasmine Brown of Bennettsville, S.C., junior Dache Green of Andrews, S.C., senior Kelsey Grimm of Pacific, Mo., and junior Italy Welton of Greenwood, S.C.

“Members of the Coker community can be enormously proud of what our dance students have accomplished,” said associate professor of music William Carswell, who chairs the department of dance, music and theater. “These impressive students are excelling both artistically and academically.  Congratulations to the students and to their faculty mentors:  associate professor Angela Gallo, assistant professor Ashley Martin and Nu Delta Alpha advisor, assistant professor Dr. Christi Camper.”

“The idea of inspiration comes from the power of possessing determination, drive, discipline, scholarly goals and focus,” said Green, who will serve as Coker’s NDA president for 2013-14. “This organization can help students achieve an ultimate level of success.  Nu Delta Alpha not only encourages its members to strive in dance, but also to also strive in life, so that each member can achieve his or her best.”

Nu Delta Alpha is designed to help dance education students, dance educators and professional dancers to express their devotion to the art form by sharing, recognizing and promoting dance education with schools and communities.
