Tim Halverson to Receive Young Alumni Award

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Oct. 2, 2013 – Coker College ’97 alumnus Tim Halverson will receive the 2013 Outstanding Young Alumni Award during this year’s homecoming celebration. He will be presented with the award during halftime of the women’s soccer game, which is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

“The success Tim has had in his career is remarkable, and I am honored to give him this year’s outstanding alumni award,” said Coker College President Robert Wyatt. “We are fortunate and proud to call him a graduate of Coker College.”

Halverson is a regional director for Russell Investments in northern Illinois. He is responsible for service, growth and expansion of the retail investment market in Illinois. Halverson provides clients with assistance in business development, training and sales of Russell’s investment products. He has worked at Russell since 2004.

“Going to Coker College was one of the best decisions of my life,” said Halverson. “The roundtable environment gave me the confidence and ability to succeed in today's business environment. The ability to work with the professors on an almost one-to-one basis has truly helped me prepare for my time after graduation. I think with the economy and job market as it is currently, the selection of the right college is critical. I believe Coker College graduates are uniquely prepared to compete in today's global workforce, and I am proud to say I am a Cobra.”

Prior to Russell, Halverson was an investment manager for Coastal Investment Advisors in Fort Myers, Fla. There he was responsible for helping small business owners design retirement products for their employees as well as helping individual clients achieve their retirement goals.

Halverson’s career began as a regional consultant with Strong Investments, where he was responsible for growth and expansion of the retail investment business throughout the U.S. He then worked for U.S. Allianz as regional vice president before joining Coastal Investment Advisors.

In addition, Halverson is also a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) and a Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA). He is also actively involved with Junior Achievement and with Big Brothers and Big Sisters organizations.

Halverson graduated from Coker in 1997 with a degree in business administration. He was one of the first members of the Coker men’s golf team. Currently, Halverson lives in Oak Creek, Wis., with his wife, Julie, and son, FaRan.
