Brittanee Phillips Awarded Endowed Scholarship

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — Mar. 18, 2014 — During its winter meeting, the Ladies of Coker announced that Coker College junior Brittanee Phillips is the recipient of the 2014-2015 Jean Campbell Williamson Endowed Scholarship. Phillips was awarded the scholarship by the Ladies of Coker Scholarship Selection Committee due to her dedication to community service as well as her academic achievements.

“I have taught Brittanee in several courses every semester since her freshman year,” said William Carswell, professor of music at Coker and the individual who nominated Phillips. “I always find her to be prepared and excited to learn. She possesses a wealth of integrity and outstanding character. I know of no student more deserving of this scholarship than Brittanee Phillips."

In 2011, Dr. Oliver Williamson established an endowed scholarship in honor of his wife, Jean Campbell Williamson `46. Coker has agreed that the funds generated by the Jean Campbell Williamson Endowed Scholarship will be awarded through a selection process determined by the Ladies of Coker, a group of alumnae and friends of Coker. The Ladies of Coker are dedicated to broadening the engagement of women through philanthropy and leadership in ways that honor the history of the college.

Phillips, who hails from Hanahan, S.C., is a music major with a concentration in voice. She also has a minor in theater. Phillips’ list of service activities includes serving as treasurer of the Coker Singers and Chamber Choir, as resident assistant in Coker’s Memorial Residence Hall and as a staff member of the 2013-2014 Coker Connection program. She was also the stage manager for the Theatrical Expressions’ rendition of Trojan Women, while also acting as a cast member for Coker’s presentations of The Laramie Project and Spring Awakening during the 2013-2014 school year.
