Meet the Artists
Mayuko Ono Gray
Mayuko Ono Gray is an artist based in Houston, TX, whose primary medium is graphite drawing. Born in Japan, she was trained in traditional Japanese calligraphy in her youth and later studied classical Western drawing. Ono Gray moved to the United States following high school and received an MFA in painting from the University of Houston in 2007. Her work has been exhibited extensively in the United States and abroad, including exhibitions in Japan, Mexico, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Greece.
Michael Webster
Michael Webster responds to the social organization of space through site-specific projects, sculpture, and lens-based media. His work is context-driven and materially attuned, investigating the effects of power on social geography with a focus on long-term participatory projects rooted in the southern United States. He received a B.F.A. from East Carolina University and a M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently, he is a member of Tiger Strikes Asteroid GVL and an Assistant Professor at Wofford College.
Diana Noh
Diana Noh is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in photography, fibers, and installation. Her practice celebrates reconstructions of distressed photographs of architectural spaces and landscapes, exploring themes of trauma embedded in her family relationships and cultural in-betweenness. Noh has exhibited work in Asia, North America, and Europe. Noh currently resides in Chicago, IL. She holds a B.F.A. from Kyungil University (South Korea) and earned an M.F.A. at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Apollinariia Ilina
Apollinariia Ilina is a visual artist, photographer, and cinematographer born in St. Petersburg, Russia. She studied cinematography and holds an M.F.A. in Art History. Ilina explores the psychology of perception in the context of working with the subconscious and dialogue with it. The fixation on dialogue as an individual’s internal reflection forms the core of her artistic expression.
Abir Mohsen
Abir Mohsen earned her B.F.A. in Art Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and an M.F.A with a concentration in Ceramics from East Carolina University. She currently works as a part-time instructor at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and Robeson Community College. Her work explores the notion of identity and home amidst conflict, war, and the diaspora
