New coker.edu features responsive design, improved navigation and updated branding

HARTSVILLE – March 22, 2016 – Coker College announced yesterday the launch of a new, redesigned version of its website (www.coker.edu). The updated site features a clean, contemporary design, user-friendly navigation and responsive, mobile-first technology that allows for optimal viewing on all devices.

The new website is the final piece of a larger branding initiative that began nearly two years ago as part of Coker’s strategic plan, Redefining Ready. In August, Coker revealed an updated brand identity, symbolized by the introduction of a new logo and a new slogan, “It’s your story.” The new website incorporates the updated visual elements into a streamlined and modern look. In addition, the new structure was designed to showcase real Coker stories through featured quotes and social media.

“We are very excited to share the new site with everyone,” said Kyle Saverance, vice president for institutional identity and information technology. “After months of research and testing, we developed a strategy that is truly focused on what our prospective students want and need. But with all of the improvements, I firmly believe that we’re now offering a much better online experience for all of our audiences.”

Additional highlights include better search functionality, an improved and expanded faculty and staff directory, better SEO (Search Engine Optimization), some updated content and easy-to-find “Apply,” “Request Info” and “Visit” buttons on nearly every page.

What will not change are any websites outside of the coker.edu domain, including but not limited to www.cokercobras.com, www.coker.edu/library and www.kalmiagardens.org. Third-party web services such as Blackboard and Webadvisor will also not change.

“Altogether, I think the new content management system, design and site architecture set us up with the perfect platform to share what Coker is all about,” said Laura Hoxworth, director of institutional identity. “Even more improvements will be coming soon as we continue updating content throughout the site, but we really think this will help us tell Coker’s stories in an authentic, compelling way.”

Coker College partnered with Global Prairie, a digital marketing and advertising firm based in Kansas City, Mo, throughout the branding process. In addition to the new logo, wordmark and slogan, the full brand identity includes secondary colors for marketing materials, usage guidelines, campus signage and more.
