A-Team Reports
Dr. Robert Wyatt
– Dr. Wyatt thanked those involved with graduation and commented that the event was a success. Dr. Wyatt recognized Jennifer Rhodes and Christie Happ as Coker graduates, and Edith Brown as a Florence-Darlington Technical College graduate. As a small token of appreciation from Dr. Wyatt, the college will observe summer hours on Friday’s beginning May 27 by closing offices at 1:00 p.m. Staff that are required to work past 1:00 p.m. on Friday’s will be allowed time off on another day. Performance evaluations are underway. If a supervisor fails to complete and submit an evaluation, then that supervisor will not be eligible for a performance increase. If an employee has not received a performance evaluation, they are more than welcome to email Dr. Wyatt. Enrollment numbers look good with 186 deposits. Our goal is 300 deposits.

Dr. Patricia Lincoln – Dr. Lincoln congratulated Jennifer Rhodes on completing a bachelors degree. Dr. Lincoln also thanked Tasha Stryker and those that helped make May’s commencement a success. She commented that ―the campus looked spectacular.

Brianna Douglas – After performance appraisals have been submitted, appointment letters will be generated and distributed during the first week of June. Open enrollment for health plans, dental insurance, and life insurance has begun. Submit enrollment changes to her office and feel free to call or email her if there are questions.

Jerry Silver – Mr. Silver discussed the flexible spending plan and reminded those that are current enrollees that this year’s plan expires 06/30/2011. If enrollees would like to continue participation they would need to elect to do so. An AFLAC representative will be on campus on 5/23/2011 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., in LITC 214. Please call to set up an appointment if you would like to meet with the representative. Mr. Silver also discussed that the health plan costs have been evaluated and are being offered at lowers costs. Mr. Silver discussed a staff compensation study which in previous years has been difficult to do due to the non-categorization of non-exempt and exempt employees. Within the next year classification of employees will be completed. The summer accounts payable schedule will go into effect 05/23/2011 with checks being processed once a week.

Jennifer Rhodes – Tarshia Edwards, Brandy Roscoe, Lisa Potoka, and I have been charged with facilitating this year’s spring/summer staff event. Staff and faculty have been invited to the ―Staff Olympics of Summer‖ scheduled for Wednesday, June 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on the Bell Tower Lawn behind Davidson Hall. Everyone was asked to show their Coker spirit by wearing Coker t-shirts. For June the customer service focus will be to say ―thank you and show your appreciation to others. Email Etiquette was discussed as a customer service component and Jennifer provided 10 tips to remember when developing and preparing to send out emails.

Janie Campbell – Janie commented that she ―loves her job‖ and reminded everyone to ―keep talking positively.

Leslie Doss – Tommy Baker and Jake Murphy will be returning to campus this evening from the 2011 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championship. Jake Murphy took third in the championship and it was suggested that Tommy and Jake be welcomed back by forming lines along the streets celebrating their return to Coker. The time to form the line will be at 6:30 p.m.

New Hire – Lisa Atkinson began May 2 as Admission’s Receptionist. Please welcome Lisa when you see her around campus.

Lifesaver Awards
Joe Flaherty to Bonnie Wilcox for making the search to fill the Provost position much easier by providing valuable and professional services.
Tasha Stryker to the Physical Plant for making life easier during the day of Graduation. The physical plant employees arrived prior to 6:00 a.m. to dry off seats and ensure that all the final details were taken care of.

Staff Excellence Award
Lisa Potoka has been selected to receive this month’s Staff Excellence Award. Lisa was nominated by Jason Umfress, Arianna Ray, and Gabe Fonseca. This is what they had to say about Lisa. Jason Umfress – I have had the privilege of working with Lisa since my arrival to Coker in December 2009. In my time as her supervisor, I have been amazed at the energy, enthusiasm, and work ethic with which she approaches her job responsibilities. You are likely to see Lisa on campus at all hours of the day or night, meeting with a student group, carrying boxes, setting up sound equipment, selling t-shirts, talking in her office with students, teaching a soccer class, or enjoying the events she worked so hard producing with her students. As a matter of fact, Lisa typically works 100+ hours over her contracted 8:30-5 job per semester.

Arianna Ray – Lisa Potoka has her own sense of style, everything she does is uniquely her own. She encourages, actually challenges you to too embrace who you are, and to create products that reflect upon your personality. Lisa has taught me several different things, but the most important lesson I have learned from Lisa is how to be self-confident and creative.

Gabe Fonseca – Leadership is a gift that takes time to harness. It must be tested and evaluated throughout time. I have learned that in order to lead, you first must follow. Lisa Potoka, the Director of Student Activities and Leadership at Coker College has taught me a lot about what it means to be a leader. She has helped me realize my strength and weaknesses. She has given me so many opportunities throughout my freshman year, that I believe she will be the best and the most amazing candidate for the CSAC Staff Excellence Award.
